Guess what?, I have found a very useful social networking website , the “Ning” (www.ning.com). A website platform where you can build for your students  and is very attractive to them. It is like  facebook where they can upload videos, pictures, and can even make a blog.   I have found it more useful in advertising this wordpress blog. Why not visit our school ning website at http://dcdnhs.ning.com/ .

Do you know that social networking can be a tool for learning, watch this video..

Making a Web Template

An HTML -made Web Template can be done by constructing  simple table/s.  If you are already familiar of making tables in a web page, I bet, this would be easy for you. Here is very a  simple template, I made it myself, you may copy.

Template picture of the HTML code below

Sample Web Template (copy the html code below)

Our School Web Template

<html> <body> <table tbody bgcolor=”033456″ width=855 align=center> <tr height=170><th colspan=”2″> </th> </tr><tr> <td height=25 width=200 bgcolor=”magenta” > </td> <td bgcolor=”red”></td> </tr> <tr> <td height=60 valign=up bgcolor=”yellow”></td> <td rowspan=”4″ bgcolor=”36ffff” height=100% width=700> For your contents </td> <tr height=160> <td bgcolor=”0a6b14″> </td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor=”0a6b14″ height=100> </td> </tr>  <tr> <td bgcolor=”0a6b14″ height=790> <center>        </td> </tr> <tr height=40> <th colspan=”2″> <div align=”center”> <font color=”1ffb33″ size=”1″ face=”Tahoma”>© Copyright 2009 Doña Carmen Denia National High School. Marquee the moving text

Have you ever wondered that sometimes when you browse an internet website there were words and texts that passes across the screen? That is marquee, an html tag.

A marquee is text that moves at one part of the screen and floats across. This is usually used in web advertisements. There are other tags that you could include in your web marquee, such as;

1. BEHAVIOR=type – where type can be scroll, slide, and alternate. Try to use all these types of marquee behavior and see their differences.
2. DIRECTION=right or DIRECTION=left - this will determine where the text starts.
3. LOOP=n – where n is the number of times the text will pass accross the screen. You can use LOOP=infinite to have your text appear or your loop continously.
4. SCROLLDELAY=n – to determine how much time, in milliseconds, passes before the text scrolls again.
5. HEIGHT=size, WIDTH=size – where size is the dimension of space where the text moves.
6. BGCOLOR,HSPACE,VSPACE,and ALIGN – are other attributes you can use.

You can copy the following html tags to see how marquee works.  My students please post your comment.

<html>

Massacre

Recently, 57 people died in Maguindanao Massacre, about 30 of them were media men.  Because of this cruel and barbaric act happening in our country some people thought that Phillipines is no longer safe for journalist. As Citizens of the Philippines, how can we help the situation?

Why Learn4Community?

A traditional teaching is when a teacher ask a project output from learners which does not help the community, like making a chair in wood working, why not something that community people can benefit.

Community-based learning, a 21st century learning where learning can take place in different environment, an approached that will benefit students, teachers and community .

A statement from U.S. President Kennedy, “Ask not what your country can do for you; “ask what you can do for your country.”  Can we rephrase this statement that relates to education?, ASK NOT WHAT THE COMMUNITY CAN DO FOR YOUR LEARNING; ASK WHAT YOUR LEARNING CAN DO FOR THE COMMUNITY, a principle that makes our teaching and learning more meaningful to our community.

From this educational principle, this blog will tell.

We will share ideas and knowledge for the community, and  design some student projects useful for our community.

What do you think?

Blog about your community

Do you like to tell in the internet about everything in your community, try using a blog. I just learn from the campblog 1B the art of blogging using wordpress. A flatform of which many bloggers were using, some  says it is more practical to use than that of the other known flatforms.

wordpress logoLearning wordpress is like learning how to construct a website. It has a dashbord (like administrative template) of which administrative editing is made, like embedding videos, posting articles, changing themes, editing headers, creating links in the article, adding pages, and many others. Unlike websites, blogs displays post according to dates, the most recent will be displayed first.

There are lot of potentials in learning to blog, for teachers a good place for posting intelligent ideas and knowledge, for others a place to give insights, reports, diaries, and everything they would want to.

KWL

An assessment tool, what I know, what I want to know, what I learned commonly known as KWL. A teacher may used this tool to assess students readiness in completing  projects. These can be used in all subjects. For project-based learning it is a chart for leveling of expectations.

I have been using this tool in  Community Map Project of my students. Students will set learning goals under what I want to know and  work for it.  Students’ goals are usually unique even if it’s a group activity. It is really a good tool to use. Why not try to use this KWL chart?

You may need to know about corel draw, a vertor-based software in making a community map. Enhancing your skills in the use of this program requires much time to practice. Perhaps videos from youtube can help a lot.

Youtube video from scrollsawworkshop blogspot, please watch.

From Peanuts to Airlines

J. Gokongwei Jr.

From peanuts to Cebu Pacific Airlines, that’s how John Gokowei Jr. relates his story. A fatherless 13-year old boy starts his business by selling roasted peanuts in cebu. The country was at war when he learned to look for business opportunities around him. A very persistent man now owns stakes in Robinsons, Cebu Pacific Airlines, Sun Cellular, Universal Robina Corporation and others. And, still many people doesn’t know that our favourite Chippy, Cheese Curls and Cloud 9 began in roasted peanuts.

A 13- year old must be first or second year high school student. Isn’t that a right age to learn business?

Research for business opportunities in the community is a good activity for high school students. Basic knowledge in Entreprenuership subject is a handful information on how to look for business opportunities. This community-based project will also develop students higher-order thinking skills and is a  more useful learning for the community.

Project-based learning

Project-based learning for Philippine high schools  are not diversions or adds-on to the curriculum. It offers the teacher more strategy to foster students learning and develop higher-level thinking skills. It will also allow the students to think of ways how to help solve problems in the community.

In technology and livelihood education the best to apply this is by creating projects that is useful  and relates to the community. When we enhance students skills inside the school campus, is sometimes difficult, doing this in the community is more feasible and meaningful. A very good unit plan addition to the lesson plans will help the teacher to foster this learning.

Perhaps I could share even more after my students completed their community map project in TLE.
